HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO MAKE YOUR ADJUSTMENT EASIER AND HEALTHIER
- Unless otherwise instructed by your physician, do not eat fresh fruits or vegetables for two weeks post-op
- Chew your food very well, since it will help to avoid blockages in stoma
- Eat small meals until you are able to return to your normal diet
- Drink plenty of fluids, including with meals
- Get plenty of rest throughout the day since being very tired brings down your spirits
- Walk around your house to build your stamina
- Make arrangements for home care nurse and she will tell you when it is time to order supplies
- Reach out for support, whether at home or others
- Create a place for supplies
- Create an Emergency Supply Kit or use one given by supplier
- Establish a schedule for changing appliance
- Lay out supplies on the counter and have a roll of paper towels available to make changing easier
- Contact a Support Group for when you feel up to attending
