Yesterday was so much fun, and so very informative! I had the pleasure of attending a Master Class at Shiseido at Bloomingdales’s, Short Hills, under the tutelage of their most adorable and stylish (you had to see her with her pixie hair under a fascinator for the occasion) Business Manager, Robin Toporek. Knowing how much I love cosmetics, she had encouraged me to take the class because she knows I am always on the hunt for great skin care products, as well. Over the years we have known each other, my constant lament is not being able to keep my face hydrated and moist enough to have “a youthful glow!” Perhaps it is because I am not youthful, but that never stops a woman from wanting to be the best she can be…and the lack of moisture is exacerbated by my ileostomy, a constant drain on hydration for all ileostomates.
Celebrity Makeup Artist and Skin Care Expert, Johnny Burnais, led the morning explaining that the history of Shiseido, the first skincare company in the world, is based on the beauty of the ancient Geishas, who typically went through 14 steps of skincare routine. Brought to modern times, we need to pare down, but get the most out of each step. Cleansing and softening the skin allows for its ability to draw in and hold moisture for the greatest “plumping” (youthful effect) and glow. I was so thrilled to be offered a solution that was simple and felt great. Additionally, the products I sampled were luxurious without being overly indulgent financially, always a consideration.
Once again, as an ostomate, I drink water constantly, but recognize there is only so much replacing of fluids possible from rehydration. I very much appreciate the opportunity to replace what is lost with acids and vitamins that directly nourish and balance our largest organ.
Once our skin was prepped and plumped, the rest was “play time” with color…my favorite part of the day. Alli, my Makeup Artist, introduced me to beautiful new Minimalist products that created a facial palette that worked for my dark hair, green eyes and fair skin. Watching the other artists work with women with different skin tones, eye colors and hair color reminded me that creativity is in the eyes of the beholder, and having the right colors to enhance all of us is key. I also love tools, and the company has created new brushes that have my name all over them, since they simplify and hone in on the areas of the face they are designed to touch.
I had a great day, and learned so much. If you are feeling dry and dull as the colder months approach, check out your favorite Skin Care and Cosmetics Counter and see what you can learn. And please share with us, since I think we all want to be our best!
I love this post. But I’d love to know which Shiseido products you recommend for hydration/moisturizing and for what types of skin. Thanks!
Lynn, thank you for your comment and question! Shiseido has a product that I have never seen in any other line…a skin softener, which actually allows the skin to receive more moisture. Softer skin is responsible for absorbing acids, serums and hydration. If you are able to visit Bloomingdale’s at Short Hills Mall, stop in and see Robin Toporek, and she will suggest the right softener for you, since there are several from which to choose. Have a great day!
