Quite frankly, it was a pretty awesome day…and not just because I wore my two Ostomy Awareness Day shirts (by Hollister and Coloplast) it is just, well, let me tell you about it…

Did you ever have a day when pretty much everything went right? The day began with my fave breakfast, followed by a long walk on a crisp and sunny day with my fave guy! Along the way, we saw a friend of our daughters and mentioned we were traveling to see our granddaughter cheer for her high school team’s football game, which has had a losing record for years and years. “I bet they will win today,” said their friend, and we laughed. But the game was a blow out and our team won 48-0, again, contributing to my great day, not to mention seeing our adorable cheerleader (they cheered with pink pom poms and Breast Cancer decals on their cheeks) in her element!

We got to spend time with our two daughters and their husbands, our quasi sons because we love them like sons, and our four grandchildren…again…how often does that happen? Someone is usually out of the picture for some reason or another. I watched a portion of the Yankee game with my two grandsons, and I got to ride in the car my grandson will drive when he gets his license in a few months.

Our other granddaughter is an actress and today she is a Mime with her group at a fall festival. She needed red scrunchies for her hair, and my daughter and I went to three places last night until we actually found red scrunchies…not pink, fuchsia, raspberry, pumpkin or orange…but real ruby red. Again, how perfect was that on the third try, when we were beginning to think the world was devoid of red scrunchies?

I drove back and forth on the New Jersey Turnpike and we hit no traffic during our hour and a half trip each way…what? The travel gods were with us, and it was smooth sailing…thank you very much!

But best of all, on OSTOMY AWARENESS DAY, I was with my family, those I love so dearly, those who have been there with me, supported me, held my hand when the days were truly dark; when I had to lay on the concrete so as not to projectile vomit in the car; when my fever was outrageously high, when my skin was burning to the touch; when I was looking ahead to my 23 surgeries, and on and on. They visited me in the hospital and at the rehab facility. They ate with me when I could only have liquids for weeks at a time. But yesterday, on my quite perfect day, they were with me when my shirt said it all…Ostomies are Lifesavers! And what a special way for me to have an Amazing Day!
