No, I am not starting a Book Club because I am far from a maven on what others might enjoy reading. I will leave that to those who read faster, are more discerning and/or just have a more interesting opinion on everything, than I do. But a wonderful friend sent me this book because we had been discussing it, and I am thrilled to share it with you. The full title of the book is: AM I DYING SHOULD YOU CHILL OUT OR FREAK OUT? A COMPLETE GUIDE TO YOUR SYMPTOMS-AND WHAT TO DO NEXT? And it is a great read!
The authors, cardiologists Dr. Christopher Kelly and Dr. Marc Eisenberg, break down, in layman’s terms, what is worth our worry and follow up with a physician, and what is simply not, and is written for easy reading and reference. It may be THE book to have in our library!
How does one read a book entitled, AM I DYING? Eagerly, and hopefully! Eagerly, to obtain information that will alleviate unnecessary stress and concern, and hopefully, that the situation causing concern is benign or manageable.
The book is chaptered into ailments or maladies, and after an intelligible, even to the layman, explanation, there is a section called TAKE A CHILL PILL, which means…RELAX! Or GET TO THE ER, which means…DANGER!
The 8 parts address different areas of concern for all of us. They are Head and Neck; Chest and Back; Belly; Lady Parts; Gentleman Parts; Bathroom Trouble; Arms and Legs; and Skin and Hair. Each of the 8 parts are further divided into every concern, acute or chronic, newly discovered or frighteningly familiar, and reading a chapter or part goes very quickly. Extremely intelligent physicians, who could easily speak in medical terms that would terrify and chase us away, make everything easy to understand, and leave little that we need to know, unknown.
AM I DYING? describes itself as “a comprehensive, lighthearted resource for your inner hypochondriac, with advice on when to chill out, make a doctor’s appointment, or go to the hospital.”
I ordered a few books on Amazon, and I am sure you will want to do the same for your family. The book makes all of the research and compilation of information simple to understand, and that is greatly appreciated by this layman. A great resource, and I am grateful to own it!
Thanks!!!
