Self Image and the Ostomate
Over the years we have known each other, my constant lament is not being able to keep my face hydrated and moist enough to have “a youthful glow!” Perhaps it is because I am not youthful, but that never stops a woman from wanting to be the best she can be…and the lack of moisture is exacerbated by my ileostomy, a constant drain on hydration for all ileostomates.
All in all, some gifts from Mama Nature are too good to ignore, and a beautiful, round, shiny, crunchy apple may just be one of them!
Over the years, I have wondered if there is a shallowness to the adoration I had for those red shoes. But as I look back on all that has transpired over the 23 years and 23 abdominal surgeries that occurred, I realize that sometimes it is simply easier to imagine losing a pair of shoes, than all that I stood on the precipice of losing.
